Photographing the biggest company you’ve never heard of.
Industrial Food Photography is a love of mine. I was therefore thrilled to spent a week in Suffolk, photographing the biggest company that you’ve never heard of.
Muntons PLC supply malts, malt extracts, home-brew kits, flours and flakes to the food and drinks industry. They supply to a huge amount of breweries all over the world and are the malt in your; Maltesers, Horlicks, Sarsons Vinegar, Shreddies etc. Cool eh?!
The Art of Editorial Photography
As is often the case when doing brand photography; these are real workers doing their real jobs. There’s often only a short window of time to photograph them. People can also be slightly nervous and wary of having their photograph taken.
Muntons folks were different however. Everyone was incredibly friendly and clearly passionate about their product. They were proud to work at Muntons and therefore proud to showcase their hard work.
To shoot images like this you have to build up a rapport with the subject quickly to make them feel at ease.
Wherever possible I like to control the lighting too – it’s what raises a set of images like this above what a good amateur can do. Most off these images are shot using a Nikon Speedlight flash or a Rotolight Led light.
HERE are some of the images in Muntons’ Distillers Guide.
Commercial Photographer of the Year
I’m thrilled to say that these Industrial Food Photography images won me the title of ‘Commercial Photographer of The year’ by Pro Photo magazine. This was a real honour as the winners are voted by Industry Experts. HERE are some of the images in Muntons’ Distillers Guide.
