Saddleworth in Lockdown – a Photographic Journal
The world came to a standstill during the Covid-19 outbreak, and even the vibrant villages of Saddleworth were not immune to the quiet. As a professional photographer based in the area, I felt compelled to document this unprecedented time. Over weekends, I wandered through the deserted streets, capturing images that tell a story of stillness and isolation.
Uppermill, typically known for its lively nightlife, was unrecognizable. The pubs, usually overflowing with laughter and music, stood empty. The contrast between these images and the “normal” weekend scenes is stark and thought-provoking.
These photographs are not just a record of a strange time; they’re a testament to the resilience of the human spirit. Even in the face of uncertainty and fear, beauty can be found. The quiet streets allowed me to appreciate the details of the architecture and the natural surroundings in a new way.
